DinnerDialogue
DinnerDialogue was my graduation project at LASALLE. My research area for this project surrounded the issue of how professional female chefs were being presented in the media.
I created a magazine that aims to question and start a discussion surrounding the issue of how female chefs are being presented in the media. This magazine includes commentary of different perspectives through the use of short essays and quotes from chefs. To address the concerns that I heard from chefs, I also included a collection of interviews with female chefs that highlight their work. From my primary research where I analysed articles and reviews, I found that many articles that featured women focused on the fact that they were women in the industry. With my interviews, I tried to shift the focus to their work such as their creative processes and what they do at work.
To complement the magazine, I also created a set of GIFs and stickers that are to be used on Instagram. Through my interviews, it was established that social media is a really useful tool for creating more exposure, and spreading awareness and support for different things. One way of doing so is through Instagram stories. This feature is often used to share other people’s posts, or share images and videos. A lot of times, people will add their own captions and stickers to ‘decorate’ their posts. This is where my GIFs and stickers come in. Their purpose is to help people show their support for female chefs when they share posts about or from female chefs. Through creating this, I hope that it encourages more people to show their support and celebrate the works and achievements of female chefs.
